Young Carers

Is Your Child a Young Carer? Are you a Young Carer?

A young carer is a child or young person under 18 who provides regular and ongoing care and emotional support to a family member. The family member may be ill, disabled, or has a mental health problem or an addiction. (Generally helping out around the house and doing jobs doesn’t mean that you're a young carer.)

A young carer does much more, including:

  • shopping, cooking, cleaning, washing, collecting prescriptions
  • helping with bathing, dressing, and taking medication
  • emotional support, such as talking to someone who is distressed or helping someone to communicate
  • looking after younger siblings
  • managing the family budget

Well - being is a real focus at Palfrey Junior School, we like to give the children lots of opportunities to talk about their thoughts and feelings.  We currently run: 1:1  mentoring/ well - being sessions,  group mentoring and well - being sessions, nurture groups and social clubs and  a Young carers group would be a new addition we could offer.

If you think your child is a young carer we would really like to know so that we can offer them support in school.

Please email and we can get back to you for a chat and  send you out a short information form to complete and some information about Walsall Young Carers Services.
